From November 15 to 17, 2017, the “Jugend forscht Iberia” regional contest was held at the German School in Madrid, in which students from the German Schools throughout Spain participate every year.

For the first time, three students of class 11 of the German School of Las Palmas had the great opportunity to participate in the competition. The students presented their project “Desalination of water activated by means of solar energy”, in which the group was investigating and working for a year.

“The project has had the generous support of the CIB company, which has allowed students to put their creative ideas into practice,” says Marco van Dijk, director of MINT research projects at the German School in Las Palmas.

And as expected, the three students did not return empty-handed to the island!

Our young researchers received the second prize of the jury in the competition, also being awarded with the special prize of “Renewable Energies” of the Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy, and the prize awarded by the Young Jury.
